Hello, Journal!
...and hello internet, though I doubt anyone would read this.
I will introduce myself, since this is quite a blank page.
My name is Sakurai Masaya, I always introduce myself this way even though I am in the United States since a few years. I don't really mind people confusing the family and given names.. old habits die hard.
I was born in japan, the country of sushi, ramen and sakura blossoms, to only name a few attractions. Ramen has gotten very popular around the world, so I have not felt that much homesick. Sushi is not quite the same, but I deal with it.
My childhood is.. something that's now behind me, and I am glad. NBack then I was quite the rowdy and agressive kid. Your typical problem child. I had to retake my 4th and 5th grades. I was the out-of-the-mold bully, laughing at others for whatever reasons, and getting into fights really often. My parents wondered what to do with me and I spent months seeing a psychiatrist.
I was always fond of animals, and my parents always threw out the pets I would drag home, be it a stray cat, mice, or even snakes. My mother was allergic to dogs, my father to cats. It starts out well, doesn't it? Mother was afraid of snakes, and father did not want me to keep anything.
The turning point was when I broke a leg ina fight and had to stay in the hospital for a while. On wednesdays there was animal therapy, and the following week I talked about this to the psychiatrist. She just added 2 and 2, and told my parents about having a pet. Since they couldn't, and since I was getting older, stronger and my punches hurt others -and myself sometimes- more, they sent me to learn english -rather they all drilled it into my brain- and all went very fast. Before I knew it, I was with my uncle tatsu, who agreed to take me in and let me work in the Pet Shop.
I learned a lot about animals, and I love them all.
The hardest was not to get attached to any of them, because you never know when they are going to be sold... or to whom.
I am doing this since three years now, and uncle tatsu is letting me run the shop on my own a few days a week. I earn enough to have a small appartment on the fifth floor of a building close to my workplace. I dont eat all that well, my parents said so when they visited me, but I am happy, very much happier.
This has been a long but needed introduction. Taking a stroll down the memory lane was fun.
A journal is a nice thing to have, even if online.. After all, aren't we in the technological era?
